About Us:

Can you enhance a strategy designed to reflect the needs of individual residents?

Do you want to join a housing needs service that needs your ideas and expertise?

Can you create a new era for our community: one focused purely on its needs?

If you do, this role maybe for you.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making. Working in partnership with our community, we deliver responsive, effective and efficient services. Grenfell has impacted every facet of our work. So it’s vital we properly understand the needs of those facing homelessness and give them the quality of life they richly deserve.

As our Service Manager, you’ll help drive a transformation that sets new benchmarks. Together, we’ll work more closely with key services to provide a place and a space that is aligned with our social care teams. We’ll provide better and earlier interventions, putting the customer first in every decision – for example helping rough sleepers who can’t access digital services. And we’ll put ourselves in residents’ shoes by increasing our diversity and involving more residents in our work.

The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Housing Solutions, you’ll develop services that focuses on early intervention and prevention strategies to prevent homelessness and reduce the use of temporary accommodation. In practice, leading and overseeing a range of teams that advise public and private landlords. The post holder will actively intervene for residents, and work with other teams and external partners to improve the data that drives our homelessness strategy.

You’ll be responsible for making key decisions on how we provide services to those in need. This will include a high-level understanding of the Council’s values and how they should be aligned with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You will have a budget to invest into homelessness prevention initiatives and rent deposits. We may ask you to oversee prosecutions too. And throughout, you’ll be focused on putting residents first, championing their cause across the Council, and ensuring your team gets the training, development and mentoring they need.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

An authority on the law, current landscape and statutory framework, you’ll be an inspirational manager and communicator. Whether from the public or third sector, your experience of coordinating Children’s Services, Adult Social Care teams, charities, shelters, community groups and more will be crucial. Not least to ensure you have the gravitas to put your best ideas into action.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. But ultimately, you’ll see this as a chance to create the kind of service you believe every community needs.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CVs without a cover letter/supporting statement, will not be considered for this role.

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant and recognisable boroughs. It has many unique buildings, famous museums and beautiful parks. Although the borough is geographically one of the smallest in London, at just over 4.7 square miles, it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe. It is home to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. Kensington and Chelsea Council (also known as RBKC) aims to provide high quality services to improve the lives of its residents and to make the borough a better place in which to live, work, and visit.

Housing and Grenfell

This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents.  This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London’s affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Housing also covers landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.  Find out more about our vacancies here.
