Job Details

About Us:

Do you have the skills to shape the strategy our community needs – and deserves?
Do you have the great leadership skills required to lead a Service in Housing Needs?
Are you able to show the sector what genuine housing innovation looks like?
If you do, this role maybe for you.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making. Working in partnership with our community, we deliver responsive, effective and efficient services. Grenfell has impacted every facet of our work. So it’s vital we properly understand the needs of those facing homelessness, and give them the quality of life they richly deserve.

This is a chance to help drive a transformation that sets new benchmarks. Together, we’ll work more closely with various teams across the Council to deliver excellent services. We’ll provide better and earlier interventions, putting the customer first in every decision – for example helping rough sleepers who can’t access digital services and securing settled accommodation outcomes for those in need. And we’ll put ourselves in residents’ shoes by increasing our diversity and involving more residents in our work.

The Role:

As Head of Temporary Accommodation and Resettlement, your Service will look to you not only for day-to-day leadership – but ideas and innovations that add a new dimension to the way they provide support and prevent homelessness.

You’ll balance a multi-million pounds budget spend against refined income for the service. So it’s vital you bring both an operational understanding as well as strategic insight to the role. You’ll central to championing inclusivity and engagement within a community that’s as diverse as any in the country. You will also build strong ties with stakeholders across the sector and pinpoint new ways of working that consistently anticipates customer needs.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Well-versed in the industry’s pressures, you’ll come bursting with ideas of how we can improve. This is a role for an innovator with an impressive track record of both inspiring and delivering visionary change in the housing sector. Someone who can adhere services to housing legislation and law while ensuring the people at the heart of them get the support they need.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. But ultimately, you’ll see this as a chance to create the kind of service you believe every community needs.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CVs without a cover letter/supporting statement, will not be considered for this role.

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant and recognisable boroughs. It has many unique buildings, famous museums and beautiful parks. Although the borough is geographically one of the smallest in London, at just over 4.7 square miles, it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe. It is home to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. Kensington and Chelsea Council (also known as RBKC) aims to provide high quality services to improve the lives of its residents and to make the borough a better place in which to live, work, and visit.

Housing and Grenfell

This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents.  This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London’s affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Housing also covers landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.  Find out more about our vacancies here.
