Plus, brilliant benefits!

Enabling our customers to live safely. That’s when it hits home!

Calling all night owls! Are you a night worker who hates routine but enjoys making a difference to others lives? Do you hate the monotony of looking at the clock during a night shift, and prefer to be busy? You do? read on, because we’ve got the perfect job for you!

Here at Home Group in Gloucestershire, we’re looking for new colleagues to join our night concierge team. Our wider team supports a number of customers throughout the region.

There are 3 different groups of customers in our area, and you’ll get the chance to work with them all. One of services looks after customers who have some quite complex backgrounds and support needs. They can have backgrounds of substance or alcohol dependence, offending histories or have a history of homelessness and nearly all have mental health support needs! The second service we look after is our young person service where we work with customers have either recently left care, or who may have been homeless. Part of this service also supports a mother and baby unit!

We work hard to support our customers to develop and maintain independent living skills, so that they can successfully move on to their own independent accommodation.

As our member of our concierge team, you’ll be one of 3 colleagues on shift every night and you’ll play a key role in making sure our customers and buildings are safe! If you’re looking for just a normal security role, then this job is not for you! If, however you want a job where the majority of shifts are busy and varied then read on. Our customers aren’t always the easiest to work with, they can have some very complex and challenging support needs, but this job is hugely rewarding.

One night you may have to deal with antisocial behaviour or tackle illegal activities on the premises, the next you may have to call out support, when one of our mums goes into labour! Don’t get us wrong there will be times for quiet and calm patrols, but it’s just as likely you’ll be mad busy! You’ll support our day staff with some basic admin like recording defects or issuing letters or helping to clean, clear, prepare or even decorate a void room.

About our team

Although you’ll mostly work on your own, you’ll have colleagues on shift, in other buildings at the same time, and there is always a manager on call with you.

Our wider team get together regularly for training and team meetings via Microsoft Teams and hopefully in the future, in person! You’ll get to know the team during your induction period, when you’ll join us for a week on days. You’ll join a team of 7 concierges who work nights, and there are over 20 of us in the bigger team who look after customers during the day, but were not just there for our customers, we’re there for each other too!

Our night team manager is Sam who joined the business over 5 years ago, and he’s worked his way through the ranks after starting as a support worker. Outside of work Sam is a keen runner and has been an amateur boxer for years. Sam will run an average of 60 miles a week and is a keen racer, who can’t wait for lockdown to let him compete again!

Working hours

We provide 24-hour support to our customers each and every day. In this role you’ll work during the twilight hours doing waking nights work. You’ll work 36 hours a week on a rota basis and there is opportunity for overtime too (if you want it!). We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

Bank

Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank. You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.

About you

You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative.

To keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!) As this is a community-based role, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes. Don’t worry, we’ll pay you expenses to cover this use! It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
