Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home
We have an amazing opportunity for confident and positive people to join our transforming care team, helping our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home within the local community. The delivery could be on a 1:1, lone working basis or 2:1 support, but you will be assisting them to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.
In this hugely rewarding job, you will assist our customers who display behaviours that challenge. These behaviours could include learning disabilities, mental health issues, autism and communication differences, alongside ongoing physical health conditions. Some customers may also have a forensic background and show distressing behaviours, so if required (and only as a last resort), you may need to use physical intervention and we will provide you with the training needed in order to do this safely.
Working collaboratively with your team you will help your customers regulate their emotions through the activities they love to do, providing person-centred care and recognising someone’s past life and experiences in order to build on their strengths.
With your Team Leaders and Deputy Managers, you’ll provide consistent customer focused assistance and routines, which are underpinned by predictability as well as effective ways to communicate. These will be determined by customer preference. You’ll be patient, have a calm disposition, great listening skills as well as remaining assertive and encouraging.
Where and when you’ll work
We are building a team to work with our customers in their own homes in Ashford, as well as working with them when they are out and about in the wider community.
You will be working with them on a 24/7 basis so you’ll be working shifts on a rota basis covering days and evenings as well as waking nights, whilst taking your turn working weekends and bank holidays.
We need you to be flexible to meet their support needs, but we will be flexible too to find and agree a working pattern that suits all our needs.
You’ll be joining Home Groups wider Kent transforming care teams (we have bases in Gravesend, Canterbury, Snodland, Broadstairs and Rainham), and you may be asked to support our other customers as and when there is a requirement.
You’re passionate and motivated and will impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing our customers to work towards their goals and aspirations. You’ll also be willing to provide personal care when required, so some experience in physical assistance to help wash, (shower or bath) dress, and oral care is also highly desirable.
It is important that you have experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality and daily care plans. We’d also love for you to hold your Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or be willing to work toward obtaining this.
While experience and skills are really important, none of these matter without the right attitude, energy and approach. If you think you fit the bill, then we would welcome your application. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here and explain in detail how you meet the criteria. Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll help you to understand how things work at Home Group!
It would also be amazing if you drive and have access to a vehicle (we do pay your expenses to cover this use!), but it's not a deal breaker if you don't!
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
