Plus, Brilliant Benefits!

Delivering new properties to become market leading.

It’s an exciting time to join Home Group as we build more homes, independence and aspirations – the vision that underpins our five-year strategy. Our commitment to deliver on our customer promise, build the right homes in the right places and be market leaders in New Models of Care, is in the hands of our brilliant people.

The role will be based within our Property Development Team. As a small specialist team, our core role is to provide new accommodation for people who need additional support, ranging from conversion and refurbishment of existing properties through to purchasing from the market. We are also delivering specially commissioned homes from leading modular suppliers. We work alongside Asset Management and Regeneration teams in supporting project work that they identify.

A key part of this role is to work alongside our Asset Management team. We are about to launch a 12-month project encompassing internal and external stock condition surveys programmes focussing on our High Risk Buildings, and you will be dealing with complex schemes (sometimes with external partners) to help us obtain EWS1 forms in relation to cladding.

A typical week may include undertaking a building survey on a new purchase, some stock surveys on existing properties, inspecting high risk buildings, running schemes on site, or delivering a programme of external cladding replacements. You will demonstrate the ability to investigate, diagnose and provide solutions to complex property queries, alongside having experience of working with external partners to scope and deliver remedial works or improvements where required.

The role of Building Surveyor, known internally as a ‘Development Project Surveyor’ is key to our commitment to delivering high quality accommodation. When you join, you’ll discover that it’s our brilliant people and culture that make a difference. We are No.7 in the UK’s Best Super Large Great Places to Work, 4th Best Place in the UK for Great Places for Women to Work, 18th in the Stonewall Top 100 and hold Investors in People Platinum Standard!

About our team
You’ll be working alongside a small specialist property and development team, with strong links to our Asset Management team. We work on a national basis, and provide safe, quality and life-changing accommodation to people who really need it. This is an opportunity to manage multiple schemes, quickly, and be able to demonstrate your ability to solve problems.

You’ll work with Victoria in the Property Development team who will provide support with allocated projects. Working on the Asset Management project, you will work with Graeme, helping to ensure our properties are up to standard. We all have a project and building surveying background, and we’ll help with any support you need, as we work together to deliver the programme and ensure a high quality product!

When you’ll work
It’s the team’s unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life, be it your child’s school play, your partner’s graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered. You can elect to fit these around your working day or use your flexi to take the time off. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours! The role will require travelling to sites that might be quite spread out – the great news is your diary will be yours to manage!

About you
You’ll have a degree or relevant qualification and experience in Building Surveying, and it would be brilliant if you were also a member of RICS/CIOB. You’ll have a genuine interest in surveying and construction, and particularly project delivery, with experience of contract administration, clerk of work duties, running schemes on site and delivering high quality products. You’ll be confident working to specifications, contracts and data, and keeping the project team up to speed.

Here at Home Group we have invested heavily in our future and use current and up to date equipment. You’ll be issued with the latest kit, which could include a Surface Pro and mobile. So, it's really important to us that you are technologically savvy and able to work independently when necessary.

You’ll have the chance to shape your own diary. However, you’ll likely spend quite a bit of time on the road as you visit sites. You may be able to work from our regional offices from time to time, but predominantly you will work from home when not on site.

During Covid
We’re continuing to deliver services for our customers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and our brilliant colleagues are at the very heart of making that happen.
