Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home
We have an amazing opportunity for you to join us and support our brilliant customer on a 1:1 and lone working basis. In this hugely rewarding job, you will assist our customer who is a gentleman in his 30’s and who has a forensic history.
Our customer, let’s call him A, is looking for a calm, relaxed and confident Support worker with good communication skills to support him with his daily living activities. A, who can get frustrated when not following a conversation, needs you to be able to adapt your language and explain things in simple terms so that he can understand. A has a wide range of interests from playing board games and cooking, to walking. He is a big fan of Doctor Who and absolutely loves Manchester United Football Club. So much so that he is very eager to attend a game in the future, so if you too love the Doctor and happen to be a fellow red devil, then you’ll get on brilliantly.
Where and when you’ll work
We are building a team to work with A in his own home in Gravesend, as well as working with him when he is out and about in the wider community. While you will be working with A on a 1:1 basis you will part of a team that we are building to support his needs. You will get together with your colleagues for training and team meeting purposes and will have them available to call upon if you need insight or support. You will have a handover with a colleague at the start and end of your shift.
We will be working with A on a 24/7 basis, so you need to be aware that you’ll be working long shifts on a rota basis covering days into evenings as well as waking nights, whilst taking your turn working weekends and bank holidays.
We need you to be flexible to meet A’s support needs, but we will be flexible too to find and agree a working pattern that suits all our needs.
You’ll be joining Home Groups wider Kent transforming care teams (we have bases in Gravesend, Canterbury, Broadstairs, Ashford, Snodland and Rainham), and you may be asked to support our other customers as and when there is a requirement.
You’re passionate and motivated and will impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing our customer to work towards his goals and aspirations. You’ll also be willing to provide personal care when required, so some experience in physical assistance to help wash, (shower or bath) dress, and oral care is also highly desirable.
As this is a 1:1 lone working job, it’s important that you have experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality and daily care plans. We’d also love for you to hold your Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or be willing to work toward obtaining this.
While experience and skills are really important, none of these matter without the right attitude, energy and approach. If you think you fit the bill, then we would welcome your application. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here and explain in detail how you meet the criteria. Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll help you to understand how things work at Home Group!
It would also be amazing if you drive and have access to a vehicle (we do pay your expenses to cover this use!), but it's not a deal breaker if you don't!
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
