Head of policy and external affairs

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body supporting housing professionals to create a future in which everyone has a place to call home.

This is a fascinating time to join us. Our role as the professional body for housing has never been more vital and you will play a crucial part in driving forward our policy and public affairs function, increasing our profile in Westminster and establishing CIH as the leading voice for the housing sector. You will work with colleagues from across the business to develop a coherent and deliverable public affairs strategy that will enable us to maximise our influence with national and local government, government agencies and key stakeholders.

We are looking for a highly adept public speaker, able to clearly articulate our position on a range of key issues from right across the housing sector. You’ll be excited by the opportunity to represent CIH across the full range of media channels, in meetings with government ministers and on public platforms.

You will have the pleasure of managing a highly skilled, experienced team of policy professionals whose knowledge spans the whole range of the housing sector. A big part of this role is joining the dots – commissioning and then using high quality policy work to underpin our public affairs.

The best part about working at CIH is the opportunity to meet and work with our fabulous members. Their drive and commitment act as a huge motivator and you will relish the opportunity to engage with them, learning from their diverse experiences and using this learning to support our policy and public affair work.

I believe this is one of the very best jobs in housing. It will bring the successful candidate profile, influence and tremendous job satisfaction across a wide-ranging brief. In return you will bring passion, hard work and commitment and a clear desire to establish CIH as the leading voice in housing.

As an employer, CIH have embraced flexible and remote working practices to ensure our teams’ wellbeing is a top priority. We are committed to equal opportunities at all stages of recruitment and selection and strives to have a workforce that promotes inclusivity. We welcome applicants from all sectors of the community to achieve and celebrate diversity.

I look forward to receiving your application and wish you the best of luck.
