Plus, brilliant benefits!
Enabling our customers to live safely. That’s when it hits home!
We have fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team, working to support our customers who come to live in our amazing supported housing service in Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
All our customers are adult females who are referred to our service by the Housing Advice Centre in Newcastle. We play a pivotal role by working in partnership with the city council and other specialist housing providers working towards a goal of reducing Newcastle's street homelessness to zero. Our part is to offer a fabulous standard of accommodation and support to those who are the most vulnerable and excluded members of our community.
Most, if not all our customers come to us with challenging and complex backgrounds that might include alcohol and substance misuse, poverty, be from offending backgrounds, have trauma related experiences and have mental health that is extremely poor.
We offer high-quality accommodation that has a 'wow' factor when is seen for the first time. It is important to us to make sure that everyone who walks through the door to their room or flat feels immediately safe, secure and comfortable in their new surroundings. The building itself can accommodate up to 24 customers - and we are generally full all the time
We help our customers to aspire to whatever they want to be during their time with us. That sounds very grand I realise, but we really do want our customers to be able to be whatever they want to be. We do this by developing a support plan with them based on their strengths and aspirations and not the negative experiences that they have had in their pasts.
As our Housing Concierge you’ll play a really important role in supporting the smooth running of our service. You’ll make sure that our buildings and customers are safe and secure, and that we get on with our neighbours!
You’ll get involved in lots of different activities which will include monitoring CCTV, regularly patrolling the premises, monitoring visitors to and from the building and ensuring tenancy conditions and service rules are adhered to. You’ll also be our first point of contact for customers during the night and at times we’ll also need you to do some general cleaning duties too.
As a Housing Concierge at Cedar House, you will be lone working during the night. The shift pattern has a start time of 8.15pm though until 7.20am the following day. However, you will always have access to our superbly reliable and experienced Out of Hours Team who are always on hand for help, guidance and advice. They will also come to support you on site if ever required. So, you are never alone really!

About our team
Although you’ll work nights, we do get together regularly in the daytime for training and team meetings. You’ll be part of our wider team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’.
Our manager is Fintan who has been working for Homegroup for over 25 years. There are 19 of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! Tracy is new to the role of Client Service Manager but has worked at Cedar House since 2007, Tracy took advantage of our learning and development, she was a Support Worker, then Support Coordinator and is now Client Services Manager!

Working hours
We provide 24-hour support to our customers each and every day. In this role you’ll work during the twilight hours doing waking nights. You’ll work on a rota basis and take your turn working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. As this is a part time role, you will generally be working an average of 2 shifts every 8 days. These 2 shifts will usually be back to back. We look need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

Bank
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank. You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.

About you
You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative.
To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)
It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
