Plus, brilliant benefits!
Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home
We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our ambitious and hard-working team in the new role of Community Housing Assistant. Your role in a nutshell is to support a handful of new customers to maintain their forever homes. We are really keen to reduce homelessness in Chelmsford and know that some customers may need more than just their own front door to create a home. Providing the right level of support through signposting and building relationships are essential.

About our team
To us we’re not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. Our Operations Manager is Nic, who has a vast amount of experience and loves getting muddy at Music festivals when not working. Our Housing Managers bring a wealth of experience which they will share with you to help you develop your skills, knowledge and expertise and progress within the organisation and so it makes sense that you’ll be line managed by one of Housing Managers. We don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too!
The East Essex Housing team is made up of 4 Housing Managers, 1 Community Housing Assistant and 2 Housing Apprentices so it’s an exciting time to join our growing team.

Work Location
You’ll work across the Chelmsford City. You’ll initially be working from home but will have the opportunity to base yourself in a brand-new local office that we are currently working towards. The great news is that we’ll give you the kit to make that easy.

Working hours
As a team we’re critical to supporting our customers, therefore flexibility is key. You will be proactive and accountable for managing your own diary which may include the occasional evening or weekend. The good news is it’s the team’s unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life. So whether it’s your child’s school play, your partner’s graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered we’ll work with you around what matters. Our focus is on getting the job done in a flexible way that suits both you and our customers!

About you
You'll have a proven passion for delivering excellent customer service and a genuine desire to help customers through use of your established time-management, organisational and admin skills in a proactive, solution-focused, friendly and optimistic way. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners in your region, as well as our Customer Service Centre and Maintenance colleagues. You’ll use your creative spark and keen eye for detail to ensure our properties and environments are safe, secure and well-managed, supporting our communities to thrive. Naturally empathetic, you can build rapport quickly and it will also be brilliant if you have an understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, housing management, housing law and universal credit too!
Here at Home Group we have invested heavily in our future and use up-to-date equipment.  You’ll be issued with the latest kit, including a Surface Pro laptop and mobile phone. So, it's really important to us that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)
It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude, passion for customer service and enthusiasm that are critical to making this role a success.  We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your covering letter why you have a passion for working here!
As this is an agile-working and community-based role, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes.  Don’t worry, we’ll pay you expenses to cover this use!
If you are successful, we need you to have an Enhanced Disclosure Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service which we’ll pay for.
