We are looking to appoint a Director of Finance and Company Secretary, following the planned retirement of the current post holder, to be responsible for the preparation, development and implementation of the charity's strategic financial plans.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Board, you will also lead a small dedicated finance team and you will need to understand how the finance function works with all the other teams and services - supporting them so that our service to Young People and to our commissioners represents excellent value.

This is a permanent, full time role based at our Head office in Birmingham.

 St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, the largest organisation working exclusively in the West Midlands helping some 5000 young people each year across the region with specific services in Birmingham, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, the Wyre Forest and Coventry.

The successful candidate needs to have a good understanding of all aspects financial management, from dealing with income receipts, all the way through to financial planning and capital project design, and everything in between.  You will also be responsible for leading a small Governance Team and ensuring that arrangements for the governance of the charity are effective and efficient; covering everything from meeting administration all the way through to risk management and supporting the Board to set the strategic direction of the charity.

The role requires a broad knowledge of financial management, governance, risk management and internal control, but of equal importance is the ability to work effectively with Directors and other colleagues in order to further the objectives of the charity in general, and young people in particular.

Key activities and challenges specific to the role include:

  • To provide the strategic financial guidance and advice to the Board, the Business Support and Audit Committee and management bodies including effective reporting and planning of the Finance environment.
  • To ensure St Basils is provided with a full range of high-quality financial management and accounting services including: payroll, rent accounting and control, payment of accounts, capital and revenue grant administration, treasury management, management and statutory accounts preparation and production.
  • Presentation of regular, timely and accurate financial management information and accounts to internal and external bodies including The Board, Business Support and Audit Committee, Senior Leadership Team, and Managers.

We will provide all necessary support and training however the successful candidate will be required to evidence the following:

  • CCAB or CIMA qualified, or overseas equivalent
  • Previous experience working in Housing or Charity Sector
  • Proven track record of delivering statutory and management accounting services
  • Managed external audits
  • Experience of leading a team
