Learning Disability Support Worker

Newcastle Community Enabling & Learning Disability Service
Permanent, Part Time (30 hpw)
Salary of £18,576 to £18,730 pa [pro rata]
Plus, Brilliant Benefits

Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home.
We have fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. We support our brilliant customers who have a wide range of needs; which include Learning Disabilities, Autism Disorder, Drug & Alcohol misuse and Mental Health.
The customer group that we work with live in their own homes across the West & East end of Newcastle and are relatively independent. Some are in employment, some attend college or are aiming to join. Some customers live in Home Group properties, so we help support them to manage their tenancies as well as supporting them with daily living skills. This can include attending health appointments, managing benefits, accessing the community, attending college, applying for jobs etc. Some customers like to go to the theatre and have trips out and take you along with them!

Customer quote
“Thank you to you and the team, I couldn’t have done this without all of your support, I’m getting to keep my baby and taking her home”.

About our team
You’ll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. Our manager is Kimberley, who has worked with us for over 7 years, she started at Home Group as a Support Coordinator and progressed to her management role!
There are 9 of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! We’re all just a lovely bunch of people who genuinely want the best for our customers!

Working hours
You’ll usually work between the hours of 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday but depending on the referrals that we receive in the future, you may need to be flexible to work some evenings and weekends. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

Bank
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank. You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.

About you
You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. You will have some experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.
We help change our customer’s lives for the better. You’ll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers personal support plans, and their needs and aspirations. You’ll work with our Senior Support Workers and external agencies to assess and engage support for our customers. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together we’ll make a difference!
To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)
It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it’s your “can do” positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!
As this is a community-based role, you’ll need to travel around to spend time with your customers. You could do this role using public transport, or if you drive and have access to a car that would also be amazing! (we pay your expenses to cover this use!)
When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
