Salary
£13,260 per annum plus reasonable expenses
Closing date

Flagship is the largest social housing landlord in its operating area of East Anglia, and our purpose is to provide homes and create sustainable communities. We have multiple sites and employ over 1300 staff.  With an annual turnover of £200m and a G1V1 rating we manage over 31,000 homes predominantly in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and North Essex through our federated model with three housing divisions, branded as housing associations (Newtide Homes, Victory Homes and Samphire Homes) operating under a single registration with the Regulator of Social Housing. The model puts the interests of tenants front and centre with tenant representation on the local housing boards.

We invest in our people and have four key values that we live by to achieve our vision of solving the housing crisis in the East of England;

  • Great People doing Great Things
  • Relentlessly Improving Performance
  • Spending Money Wisely
  • Delivering Outstanding Customer Service

We have our own in house repairs and maintenance division, Flagship Services, alongside our subsidiaries, Flagship Housing Developments, our treasury and finance company, Flagship Finance Plc, and Gasway Services and Blueflame which provide gas servicing and installations services both to the group and to external clients. Our development company, Flagship Housing Developments, has been tasked with an ambitious programme to build over 1,000 homes per year over the next 4/5 years.

The opportunity

As part of our Board succession plan, we are seeking to recruit three Non-Executive Directors who can provide strategic experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Financial Management
  • Information Technology
  • Asset and Property Management (including Compliance and Health and Safety)
  • Sustainability

Our Board has a friendly and collaborative culture and we are keen to receive interest from a diverse and broad range of people, including those from groups who may currently be underrepresented on our Board , such as disabled applicants, women and candidates from minority ethnic communities. For each of the areas of expertise we are looking for, we have included examples of equivalent lived experiences in the attached recruitment pack.

What's involved?

As a Non-Executive Director, you will be accountable for and contribute to effective strategic leadership of the organisation, ensuring there is clarity and commitment to our strategic direction. You will hold executive leaders to account for the operational and financial performance of Flagship - making sure its money is spent wisely. You will be an ambassador for the Group, ensuring our values and objectives are upheld whilst being fully aware of the economic and governmental environment that affects our activities. You will need to be able to build productive and collaborative relationships internally and externally to succeed in this role.

This is a strategic ‘hands on’ commitment which typically involves attending six in person board meetings a year (subject to pandemic restrictions) with a time commitment of four days per month, including an annual 2-day strategy session.  Board members will receive comprehensive induction programme as well as on-going training and support. There will be plenty of opportunities for new Board Members to learn new skills and mix with interesting people who have a range of knowledge and experience to share.
