Job Details

Peabody are seeking to recruit a full time, permanent Trainee Arborist to join their Tree Services Team based in Thamesmead.

This is a great opportunity for applicants to begin a career in Arboriculture, learning to work within a Tree Surgery environment carrying out a range of work including ground-based tree work and tree climbing. The role will follow a structured training route consisting of on-the-job training as well as external training and assessment over a three year period. Salary will increase during this period in line with acquired training/qualifications/experience.

Departmental Responsibilities: 

  • To assist with tree pruning operations, including but not limited to: lifting, thinning, crown reduction, pollarding at heights in excess of 20 meters
  • To assist with tree felling and stump removal
  • To assist with cable bracing and tree support system activities
  • To assist with tree inspections
  • To safely use a wide variety of equipment and hand tools including but not limited to chainsaws / pole saws / hand tools / harness and ropes of all types.
  • To understand work requirements and work to deadlines.
  • To gain and maintain knowledge of arboricultural practices, legislation, relevant legislation and codes of practice, and industry guidance.
  • To assist with on the job training as directed.
  • To ensure prompt and accurate completion of all forms and records required for the duties of the post.
  • To follow Peabody’s Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure, as far as is practicable, your own safety and that of others in the workplace. You may be required to undertake specific Health and Safety roles such as Fire Warden or First Aider as part of your duties.

Skills/Experience required:

Essential:

  • Ability to work in all weathers in an outdoor environment
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work at height
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and polite manner with colleagues and members of the public.
  • Basic literacy skills desirable and the ability to undertake training.

Desirable:

  • Current driving license (B+E)
