Are you a self-motivated, energetic individual with a passion for improving the lives of social housing customers and their communities?

If so, you may be interested in our vacancy for a Community Development Officer (known in Southern Housing Group as Community Resilience Officer). This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week Monday to Friday on a fixed-term contract for 2 years. You’ll work across Brighton, Shoreham, Peacehaven, and surrounding areas.

Working within the Community Investment Team, you’ll be responsible for coordinating a range of activities, projects, and partnerships across our estates in and around Shoreham. The aim of the role is to:

  • Engage with our customers to build an understanding of their needs
  • Reduce social deprivation with a focus on food, furniture, and digital poverty
  • Support their wellbeing and resilience in a post-pandemic environment
  • Support the delivery of employment and training opportunities
  • Liaise closely with our supply chain to maximise resource and impact for our customers

You’ll also establish a Community Development Plan, coordinate activities, engage with local partners and seek funding to stretch resources to create greater impact from available resources. Building sustainable communities, whilst supporting their local initiatives, in collaboration with our supply chain and local partners is the core of this role. This is an interesting, hands-on role which is truly rewarding as you actively contribute towards making a positive different to our customers’ lives!

What we need from you

  • It’d be highly advantageous if you have experience in a similar role with understanding of the needs of social housing customers
  • Good at multi-tasking, prioritising and working to tight deadlines
  • Report writing skills
  • A strong communicator who is confident working with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of delivering high quality projects and/or services
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Works well under pressure, resilient and professional
