Project Manager: New Homes Development Team

Employer
London Borough of Southwark
Location
London
Salary
up to £52.5k
Closing date
10 Oct 2021

Would you like to work on one of the biggest council house building and regeneration programmes in the country?

Southwark Council has an ambitious target to build of 11,000 new homes over the next 30 years, with 2,500 delivered by 2022. This exciting opportunity is based within the council’s New Homes Development Team, which plays a central role in leading the council’s development and regeneration programme.

Southwark’s New Homes Programme

We are looking for a number of Project Managers who will be instrumental in delivering the most ambitious council house building programme anywhere in Britain. With 2,500 homes to deliver by 2022, it’s a big goal and crucial if we’re going to tackle the housing crisis and make sure our residents have quality homes they can be proud of, now and in the future.

Southwark is a small, densely-populated borough, and there has been significant opposition to large-scale regeneration projects that deliver the greatest number of new homes. To meet this challenge we’re looking at new and innovative ways to build more council homes such as building on top of existing blocks, converting disused areas, buying land and delivering new homes as part of major refurbishment or estate regeneration works.

The Role

As a New Homes Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing a programme of new build mixed tenure and mixed use developments from inception to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring that new build homes are delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget, providing much-needed new homes for our local residents.

You will be managing multi-disciplinary technical and professional new build delivery teams and providing leadership and direction for more junior members of staff. You will be working closely with teams across the council to secure the delivery of the new homes, as well as external contractors, architects, and other stakeholders. Securing the support of our existing residents for these new developments is key, and the role will entail carrying out resident consultation and engagement for the duration of each project.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Project Manager, experienced in the delivery of new build developments, working within affordable housing or a similar sector. The successful candidate will have significant experience of managing budgets and cash flows on complex projects, managing relationships with multiple external consultants, and ensuring timely communications and reporting to all relevant stakeholders.

You will have experience of liaising with residents and residents’ groups throughout the life of a project. You will also have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the preparation and presentation of reports for scheme approvals, briefings and similar documents as required.
