Hybrid location: working from home, and our office based in Newcastle upon Tyne
Full Time (37.5 hpw), Permanent
Salary circa: £53,000 pa negotiable based on skills and experience

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Cyber Security Team in the new role of Lead Cyber Security Specialist. You’ll be a key player taking responsibility for the continual improvement of our cyber defence capability. You’ll help to maintain and improve our ISO 27001 and PCI certifications as well as any other future standards the business may want us to adopt. As a lead role you will own the technical aspects of these certifications, ensuring we remain compliant with current legislation and best practices today but also horizon scanning to be prepared for any new updates that may impact us.

As Lead Cyber Security Specialist, you will develop both our incident and vulnerability management programmes ensuring plans are robust, scalable and expectations are set within the team. As such you will be accountable for operational security, including the monitoring and mitigation of threats as well as leading on investigations and incidents, and you’ll make sure those around you are up to speed building a positive relationship not only with your team but with colleagues throughout the business. As a friendly face you’ll engage with our colleagues to build a cyber aware culture developing an inclusive training programme.

Working in collaboration with our IS Architecture colleagues you will design and implement “Security by Design” leading on the implementation of secure technical solutions for the business across platforms throughout the Microsoft technology stack.

About our team
You’ll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about all things related to Cyber & Information Security, we’re professional, have a love for technology and we all bring different skills to the table, meaning when faced with a problem we can hit it from various angles.

As Lead Cyber Security Specialist, you’ll be working closely with our Cyber Security Manager Jeff to deliver on our cyber security roadmap. When not at work Jeff is a self-confessed film geek, loves the outdoors and when not at the beach or taking timeout gaming can be found dragging his kids up big hills on the weekends.

We’re a compact but growing team and you will be a key player and echo the value; we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too!

Where you’ll work
This is a hybrid working role, for us that means you’ll largely be working from home, but you will be expected to pop into our head office on a weekly basis. You will also be required to visit our remote sites on an occasional basis.

It’s the team’s unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life, be it your child’s school play, your partner’s graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered. You can elect to fit these around your working day or use your flexi to take the time off. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours!

About you
As an experienced practitioner, you have a passion for all things Information and Cyber Security, with experience of working in multiple security principles and disciplines. These include but are not limited to; vulnerability scanning, IDP, SIEM, patch management, encryption, anti-virus, identity access management, OWASP methodology as well as the NIST framework.

You’re a cloud and website security expert with strong networks (firewalls, proxies etc) expertise.

You also have the technical skills to monitor the Home group eco system - for example cracking passwords, scanning websites and systems with the ability to interpret the results. You use your advanced knowledge of the Microsoft technology stack to keep constantly aware of the ever-evolving threat landscape.

You’re able to combine strategic thinking with day-to-day operational work, influencing today’s activities to impact on the bigger picture. You’ll use your insight about future threats potential and opportunities to ensure we implement measures to stay secure in the long term.

You’ll use your strong influencing skills to reduce cyber security risk organisations like ours have, the behaviour of our 3000+ colleagues who are spread across the UK. Your skills are also actively used to work with senior stakeholders as well as our external suppliers and partners.

You have experience in preparing for, attaining and retaining ISO 27001 certification. You have partnered with the business and internal auditors and other vested parties to prepare for audits and have hosted and manging external audits visits. You’ll feed into organisations

Information Security Working Group, working alongside senior stakeholders to help ensure we keep our accreditations.

You’re adept at communicating to diverse technical and non-technical audiences in clear common language and know how to ensure those with limited knowledge of information and cyber security principles understand risk and threat to the business.

You’ll ideally hold relevant professional qualification, be it a degree in the security field, CCNA, CompTIA Sec+, CISM, CompTIA CYSA+, CISSP or are qualified through extensive practical professional experience.
