St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work.

Housing Services are responsible for managing and maintaining 5,000 general needs tenancies. Our housing management team is currently divided into two teams, an income recovery team and neighbourhood management team. This post is based within our neighbourhood management team.

You will be responsible for a number of functions related to duties in connection with Estate and Tenancy Management for Secure and Introductory tenants. This includes management of estates nuisance cases and tenancy breaches as well as successions, exchanges and assignments. There is a strong emphasis on tenant and leasehold consultation and participation within the responsibilities of this post. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders as well as voluntary sector agencies who provide support and advice to tenants and with Councillors on issues related to their ward.

You should be educated to degree level, or equivalent, or have proven experience of working in social housing within a frontline service managing casework. Working knowledge of relevant legislation and legal procedures relating to tenancy management is essential for this role. A BTEC, or equivalent, in a Housing related subject is desirable, as is demonstrable experience and commitment to tenant involvement and empowerment.

You must be an excellent communicator, IT literate and ideally be able to use a housing software system. You will be required to attend occasional evening meetings and evening working as needed from time to time. There is also a requirement for you to also be available as part of the council’s emergency planning arrangements subject to service requirements.

This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Check.

Benefits include up to 26 days annual leave, pension scheme, hybrid working with up to 3 days per week in the office as well as site visits and other benefits.
