At Epsom & Ewell, we aspire to deliver high quality services to our residents. We might be small, but we have big plans to serve our population of 80,000 residents. We are investing in our future, increasing strategic capacity and exploring new ways of working.

Our long-term vision for the Borough tells us where we want to be and how we’re going to get there. The Strategic Housing Manager is a new role where the postholder will have the opportunity to drive good practice and deliver tangible outcomes in the strategic housing function, while enhancing the Borough, the Council and their own professional portfolio. This role will be crucial to delivering that vision and the aspirations of local people, as well as driving forward key deliverables from our Four Year and Recovery Plans.

We are seeking a housing professional with significant experience of working at a senior level within a local authority housing service or the affordable housing sector.

The role requires management of a multi-disciplinary team including the housing options and housing solutions teams, discretionary housing grants, and affordable housing delivery alongside project management of externally-funded projects to prevent homelessness.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, confident working alongside senior leaders and elected representatives and working in a highly pressured and sensitive environment. Strong negotiation and collaboration skills and a detailed knowledge of the legislative and policy context impacting on the role of Strategic Housing Authorities including the Homelessness Reduction Act are also essential.

You will join Epsom and Ewell Council at an exciting time when you can help shape its future as we build back better following Covid and organisational change If you can strike the balance between developing creative solutions, long term strategies, and providing effective management of our busy strategic housing team, we want to hear from you.

In return you will benefit from 24 days annual leave (rising to 29 after 5 years’ service), subsidised gym membership and car parking, payment of professional fees, entitlement to join the local government pension scheme, and non-contributory life assurance.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a professional and committed team and we look forward to receiving your application. For further details please go to www.epsom-ewell.gov.uk/careers or contact Rod Brown on 01372 732546.
