Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home.

We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome Home Group team at Swanway; a beautiful purpose built service for customers with learning disabilities in an established estate in Gateshead. Our customers are at the heart of what we do, we support our brilliant customers, who have learning and sometimes mental health needs to manage their tenancy. Support is provided by a third party, so we work alongside them to ensure our customers’ needs are met. So, communication skills and managing relationships is key to success.

A typical day could include property inspections, covering concierge and making sure we’re compliant with health and safety. You could also be meeting customers to help them make their flat a home by improving decor, or choosing new furniture. Another day you could find yourself working alongside our support colleagues to make sure our housing management approach supports customers to achieve their aspirations. You may also assist our maintenance surveyors with planned works or looking at Occupational Therapy recommended adaptations in the service.

You’ll ultimately be our housing and property guru! Focussing on tenancy support, you’ll provide a housing management service to our customers, supporting them to manage their tenancy and rent accounts. You’ll also help our customers with their housing benefit claims and making sure that these are received on their rent account. You’ll turn around vacant flats so that new customers who need our help can move in quickly.

About our team
Our Swanway team is small (all the best things come in small packages!) We work daily with other agencies to encourage our customers to step out and take positive steps to achieve their goals. When they do, we all celebrate when they succeed. Cake anyone?

Our brilliant manager is Jackie. She has worked for Home group for 9 years and managed lots of different services (she’s saved the best till last of course!). She makes a mean carrot and walnut cake, loves her two cocker spaniels and when a plan comes together. We don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too!

Working hours
You’ll work on a rota basis between the hours of 8am – 8pm. You’ll work 12 hour shifts, on a 4 days on and 4 days off rota basis. So, you will work weekends regularly.

We provide 24-hour tenancy support to our customers each day and every day. You’ll work on the day shift on a rota basis. So, your shifts can fall on bank holidays, for which you will receive extra remuneration. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. You will have some experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.

It would be amazing if you have worked in a property or housing management type role before. However, if you haven’t, then we will be glad to support someone with transferrable skills and with the right ‘can do’ positive attitude and enthusiasm. Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll help to you understand how things work at Home Group! You will be equipped with your own phone and surface pro laptop, so we need you to have strong IT skills too.
