Peabody have an opportunity for a permanent, part-time (28 hours per week) Intensive Housing Support Worker.  Working with Southend Borough Council to provide an intensive housing support service to people who have experienced sustained or recurring homelessness.

You will have experience of working with people who are homeless and or have complex needs, including substance misuse issues.  Most importantly, you will have a passion for supporting people to sustain their tenancy and lead a fulfilling life. 

Using “Housing First” principles you will work intensively with a small caseload of clients, delivering wrap-around support from a strength based-perspective.

Support will be person-centred and based on customer need so will involve weekend and evening working.

Key responsibilities

  • Support customers with complex needs around tenancy sustainment ensuring a strengths based and solution focussed approach at all times.
  • To carry out an assessment of need with each new customer referred to establish and develop an appropriate plan of support.
  • Where needed help, support and assist customers with all of the practical aspects of moving and setting up a new home.
  • Meet the needs of each individual customer depending on their personal circumstances while maintaining a caseload.
  • Participate in all parts of the service from the initial referral, being able to confidently triage to the right level of support, completing assessments and crisis support as required.
  • To provide in-depth advice and information to those worked with on topics such as welfare benefits, education, employment and accessing other services.
  • Working in customers own homes and in the community, you will provide advice and core support to help customers sustain their housing and build a home, access health care for physical and/or mental health conditions, work and training opportunities, offering encouragement to access support services and be active within their community.
  • Engage with appropriate stakeholders and specialist agencies to improve positive outcomes; working collaboratively and adhering to the Social Care principle of ‘No decision about me, without me’ ensuring the customer is at the heart of any work carried out.
  • Use specialist skills, knowledge and experience to ensure improve understanding of homelessness prevention within the team and wider organisation.
  • Offer training, both formal and informal in area of specialism to the team including expert advice and guidance as required.
  • Promote self-advocacy and advocate for all customers
  • Documenting all tenancy related support activity appropriately and in a timely way using systems as appropriate and provides accurate reports as needed

The working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. You will be required to be flexible to participate in weekend and evening, as required. Hours to be negotiated at interview.
