Housing Management Worker

Salary £18,576 to £18,730 pa rising to £19,200 through length of service

Our Housing Management Workers offer tenancy related support to customers who are moving forward in their journey of independence. We have 50 units of accommodation (mainly in the Leam Lane area of Gateshead) which offer customers with low to medium tenancy support needs, the opportunity to live successfully in the community.

Your attitude and drive are far more important than your experience. We can teach you everything you need to know, but we can’t teach you to care, to be determined to find solutions or to have an upbeat energised happy vibe about you. We help our customers by focussing on tenancy support. You’ll support by helping them by assessing their needs and helping them to learn to manage their tenancy and rent accounts. You’ll also support our customers with their housing benefit claims and making sure that these are received onto their rent account. You’ll turn around vacant bed spaces so that new customers who need our help can move in quickly.   You’ll also make sure our service achieves maximum occupancy, and that we are health and safety compliant!

About our team
We are a shiny new service offering Move-on support in purpose built flats that are the cutting edge of design (ok we got most things from Home Bargains but you get my drift)

Our service will be staffed day and night, and the great news is that you’ll be expected to work 9am to 5pm (or 8am to 4pm) with 2 waking night concierge coving the late evenings and nights (we’re recruiting for them now, if you know any night owls?). The team is team led by Karen, our Senior Client Service Manager. Karen has managed many different Home Group Services and her favourite thing is setting up new innovative projects like this one. Our colleague Clare is the teams Housing Manager, she had the best start in Home Group by working in the contact centre, (once you have done this job you can do anything)! We have 3 Handy men John, Michael and Paul (we just need Ringo and we have a band!) who are new to Home Group but come with a wealth of experience in all things “Handy” to help us in service and in the community.   Be warned Karen is a feeder, from bacon sandwiches to cakes and biscuits always being on hand in the office so you also need will power if you’re on a diet!

Working hours
You’ll be working day shift, so will work on a rota basis between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm, and take your turn working weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

Bank
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank.   You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid weekly!

About you
You’re passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds.   You will have some knowledge or experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, rents, independence plans, alongside working collaboratively.

As our Housing Management Worker you’ll support letting and re-letting rooms or units, collecting rents, and taking formal tenancy action when needed. You’re great at managing your own time and have strong written and verbal communication skills.   

To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!) However we’re glad to support you, if you need help.     

To make sure our customers are well supported, it’s important that you have worked in either a social housing or care setting environment before. Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll help to you understand how things work at Home Group!

If you are successful, we need you to have an Enhanced Disclosure Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service which we’ll pay for.
