Homelessness is high on the national agenda and we are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Housing Needs and Standards team as a Senior Specialist Advisor (Accommodation).

Housing Needs and Standards provide a range of housing services including HMO licencing, disabled facilities grant, housing applications, advice, and options. The team are also responsible for preventing homelessness, managing temporary accommodation and a growing portfolio of commercial tenancies. 

As a Senior Specialist Advisor, you will be developing and managing a work stream focussed on providing a full range of accommodation solutions, across a range of tenures.

We will be looking for you to develop, lead and manage Housing Needs and Standards’ Allocations and Lettings, temporary/emergency accommodation, commercial properties and Private Sector work streams, providing line management of Team Leaders, Specialist Advisors and Caseworkers as appropriate, to deliver performance KPI’s and you will provide high standards of advice and support to colleagues to resolve cases of varying complexity. 

You will be expected to provide effective void management and lettings for around 7000 properties across the two Authorities, maximising income and providing appropriate Housing for the Councils customers in housing need, including homeless applicants.

It is an exciting time to join the team. You will have the opportunity to shape this newly formed accommodation work stream. You will also be able to take part in several new projects and initiatives, such as the nationally recognised Rough Sleeper Initiative and encouraged to exploring opportunities in the private lettings market.

To be successful you will have a track record of achievement, be a good communicator, an effective manager and able to build lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will also need an eye for detail, good organisational and planning skills, be able to think critically and work autonomously to meet the objectives of the organisation.

Working knowledge of relevant Housing Acts are essential, as is proven experience of managing Accommodation.

Because we work across two councils our area is unique in its mix of environments, including the larger urban area of Eastbourne, the historic county town of Lewes, small towns and villages in and around the National Park and a large area of coastal strip. The work is varied and challenging.

You will be required to work from our Lewes, Eastbourne and Newhaven offices, subject to the needs of the service.
