Our East Sussex Domestic Abuse Service is currently looking for a Support Officer to join our dynamic team.

The role of Support Officer whilst challenging at times, is an extremely rewarding one.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you need to have a good understanding of domestic abuse issues including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children, ideally having previous experience in a similar role. We're looking for people who have the qualities and skills we feel would most benefit our clients; professionalism, empathy, kindness and understanding, and a desire to develop their own knowledge and skills to best support our clients.

As a Support Officer, you'll work alongside internal and external colleagues including statutory and voluntary support services in East Sussex to help our customers and their families stay safe and recover from abuse.

You'll use a person centred, trauma informed approach to assess the customers' needs and create an individual support plan with them.

The Support Officer role is varied and includes: providing assistance to customers to access welfare benefits and manage debt issues; advice to manage their tenancy/ license with Clarion, enabling access to legal help and to attend court hearings or child protection meetings, providing access to counselling, therapeutic support and education services for them and their children, enabling access to substance misuse and mental health services and support to move on to appropriate, safe, longer-term accommodation.

In addition, as part of the refuge team, you'll provide resettlement services to customers who have moved into independent accommodation and you'll have a key role in ensuring the refuge is a safe and welcoming place to live and work.
