About The Team

Specialist housing is part of Hounslow Council’s Housing Tenancy Management Service, designed to meet the needs of older tenants and their partners, who are over 60. These residents receive the same support as other tenants, but sheltered and extra care schemes have additional staff to provide them with extra security and assistance in emergencies. The aim is to enable residents to continue to live independently while enjoying the range of community activities on offer.

Key Responsibilities

1. To visit tenants daily and monitor their wellbeing.

2. To assist tenants with reporting any malfunctions in relation to medical equipment, respond immediately to alarm calls in partnership with care and support provider and to take appropriate action.

3. Assist tenants in sustaining their tenancy by referrals to agencies that can help with their support need such as financial inclusion, welfare benefits and debt/legal advice; provide tenancy and anti-social behaviour support.

4. To be responsible for the care and security of the extra care accommodation at Bristol Court.

5. To ensure all paperwork and records in relation to tenants are accurate and up to date.

Your Skills

1. Knowledge of statutory and voluntary services for older people, understanding and experience of the issues surrounding people in Extra Care and ability to promote and encourage independence.

2. Good standard of numeracy and literacy and ability to keep accurate records and collate data.

3. Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision and react calmly and efficiently in an emergency but also a strong team player who can work flexibly and effectively with others to achieve goals.

4. Good interpersonal skills and communicator, confident dealing sensitively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Essential for The Role

  • DBS Check ( Enhanced)
  • Willing to work evenings and Saturdays on a rostered basis.

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the employee specification.
