Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) is an award-winning organisation, providing management and maintenance services to around 7,000 residential, commercial and public buildings throughout the Borough, including the Council’s housing stock, Colchester Castle and Colchester Town Hall.

Reporting to the Head of HR and Governance, you will be integral to working with staff, key stakeholders, and partners to help ensure that Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) and Colchester Borough Council (CBC) deliver on our Public Sector Equality Duty in full to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations across our workforce and residents.

Your role will involve promoting and embedding good practice in respect of equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery, policies, procedures and projects. You will lead on planning and ongoing support for the Equality and Diversity Staff Groups, developing an action plan for change for CBH and CBC which honours the voices of our colleagues. You will work closely with HR to ensure that diversity is at the heart of our people practices so that we deliver on our commitment to attract, reward, retain, develop, and promote talent that reflects the communities that we work in. This will ensure both organisations are more inclusive employers. You will also work closely with tenant and community engagement groups to ensure that tenants and community views and needs are properly represented and influence CBH and CBC policy.

You will have experience of working in equality, diversity and inclusion and have good working knowledge of working with groups representing the ‘protected characteristics’ such as disability, LGBTQ+ and race/ ethnicity.  You will have a track record of maintaining positive working relationships with peers and senior colleagues, both internally and externally. If you have a professional and sensitive approach, with an ability to deliver positive outcomes bringing people with you, then please consider applying. Interviews will be held on 8th June 2022.

Benefits of the role include:

  • Local government pension scheme
  • Excellent training, development, and progression opportunities
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • The opportunity to buy up to another 5 days holiday, subject to conditions
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme
  • Provision of a smartphone and laptop
  • Free parking (for when you’re in the office)
  • Discounted gym member
