Permanent, full-time (37 hours per week)

St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work.

In this new post, you will be responsible for managing the compliance for all of the Council`s housing stock of 4,900 properties, including (but not limited to) Gas servicing, electrical testing, Legionella, Asbestos management, Fire Safety and health and safety within the housing portfolio and teams. This includes being the lead on implementing the Council`s Housing Energy Strategy, linked to the existing fuel poverty and Sustainability and Climate Crisis Strategy. You will also provide technical advice to the team and work in collaboration with other services, key contractors and senior management to ensure corporate priorities are delivered.

You will have a degree level qualification or membership of professional body in construction or Health & Safety related discipline. Keeping up to date with regulatory developments and industry best practice, together with advanced knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and core disciplines of work area, are essential for this post.

Experience of delivering construction projects, managing compliance for a large organisation with multiple properties together with contract management experience of specialist mechanical and electrical projects is key for this post.
