Your New Role

The post holder will report directly to the Director of Housing Neighbourhoods and Building Services and form part of the council’s senior management team. In this role the post holder will lead the Housing Management services for Portsmouth City Council, delivering responsive and effective services our customers. This includes the delivery of statutory functions related to housing and safeguarding.

The role will include leading from the front to inspire and give confidence to both colleagues and customers, whilst developing a regional and national presence working with other social housing providers to collaborate on areas of mutual interest and to shape and inform national housing policy. This role will include leading on working with Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities, Home Office and other government departments on relevant areas, as well as acting as the landlord for the council’s housing stock of approximately 14,000 properties and 2,000 leasehold flats.

This will also include the oversight of the budgets related to the service areas and working with the director, finance, and assistant directors to address budget pressures and the long-term viability of the HRA 30-year business plan.

What you need to succeed?

You will have experience in senior management and have extensive experience ideally in a multi-disciplinary housing environment either in the social or private housing sector.

The role will be a blend of strategic and operational activities therefore will require a breadth of knowledge, including ability to review services using the systems thinking method, a track record of service improvement using an evidenced based approach, extensive knowledge of housing policy and legislation, ability to build and develop effective relationships, as well as managing complex budgets.
