We are working with one of the largest housing associations to recruit two Development Managers to lead on major residential and regeneration schemes in London. The roles are delivery focused but a solid understanding of new business and housing development programme management would be advantageous.

Both Development Manager roles include responsibility for project delivery and reporting on a portfolio of contracted and in-house build projects. Reporting skills are essential as your reports will be used to update the business and inform stakeholders of the progress of schemes, ensuring they are ready for delivery within set agreed targets and providing vital information if delayed.

We are looking for people with a thorough understanding of residential development, including knowledge of land and legal aspects, planning, business and financial planning, board approval, funding and delivery.  You will get involved in detail on schemes whilst in the Land and Planning stages to shape and provide meaningful input and involvement to delivery proposals.  You will need to be a proactive scheme leader, experienced in managing medium to large newbuild residential developments.

Both roles require excellent communication, networking and relationship management skills to deal with a range of internal stakeholder teams and external consultants, contractors and developers.

You will need to be commercially focused, an innovative thinker and an experienced problem solver to help to deliver an ambitious pipeline of new homes.

You will be required to assist with the compilation of tender documents and administer build contracts and development agreements. For this you will need exceptional attention to detail and a methodical and logical approach.

As Development Manager, organisation and time keeping is key as you will need to be able to work within tight time restraints whilst maintaining high accuracy and ensure robust document management systems are maintained whilst continuously reviewing ways to identity more efficient/commercial ways of working. Hybrid working available to split between home and London office.

You will need:

  • The ability to successfully manage and lead a project team of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent financial reporting and business planning skills.
  • Knowledge of build contract law, particularly development agreements, build contracts and joint venture agreements.
  • Knowledge of the wider development process (conception to completion).
  • First class development project management skills and proven experience in managing and delivering residential schemes within set targets.
  • A thorough understanding of housing development including detailed knowledge of building practices, technical design, planning developing control, contract law, GLA/Homes England requirements and methods of construction.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent financial and commercial acumen
  • Excellent presentation, networking and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate, influence and negotiate with a range of stakeholders
  • A professional qualification such as RICS, CIOB or MAPM is desirable
  • Access to a car to travel to development sites
