Papworth Trust is a leading Disability Charity based in Cambridgeshire, delivering a range of services to customers across the East of England. We are currently recruiting for a Trustee to join our board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees has responsibility for the proper governance of the Charity, determining its strategy and direction and monitoring performance and risk.  As one of our Trustees and along with The Board, you will have direct responsibility for the strategic direction of the organisation and overseeing the following:

  • Setting the organisational strategy, monitoring the performance of strategic targets through development and achievement of the business plan
  • Ensuring a culture of engagement and collaboration with customers, staff and volunteers 
  • Defining and ensuring compliance with the Charity’s values and objectives
  • Establishing policies and plans to achieve those objectives and ensure regulatory and legal compliance is adhered to
  • Approving each year’s budget, business plan and accounts.

About you

We are keen to encourage applications from those who have lived experience of disability and those of a diverse background who have a passion to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled people and a commitment to the legal duties and responsibilities of Trusteeship.

You will have knowledge and experience relevant to the charity, and you may be a Senior professional or technical specialist with an understanding of the governance of complex organisations. Experience of working in the Not for Profit or related sectors, and also of income generation or cultural change would be beneficial.

You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to develop external relationships that build support for the Charity. You will be an independent, creative thinker and a self-managing team player with sound judgement. As an ambassador for the Charity, you will inspire trust and confidence.

The position of Trustee with Papworth Trust is a voluntary role. The Chair, Vice Chair and Trustees receive no remuneration. Reasonable expenses can be claimed, in line with the Charity’s expenses policy, for attendance at Board and committee meetings and other events necessary for the fulfilment of the Trustees’ duties.
