Trafford Housing Trust, also referred to as THT, is a profit-for-purpose housing association with a mission to make society fairer for everyone.

We're actively building diverse teams and encouraging applications from everybody. We want to create an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve. We are a disability-confident organisation and will support applications with reasonable adjustments, including those who are neurodiverse.

Our vision is that everyone deserves a quality home that provides them with the opportunity to live a better life. Our purpose is to provide homes and neighbourhoods everyone can be proud of.

We put our customers at the heart of everything we do. That's why, as well as building and managing quality homes, we look after the families that live in them and their community.

Is this a mission you'd love to have a helping hand in? We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice keen to learn and develop their skills in housing support and adult social care.

What do the team do?

We support customers with substantial and complex needs that impact their ability to sustain their tenancy. A person with complex needs is someone who has several aspects of their life, personality, and health that they may find difficult to manage and require extra support with. Interventions are time-limited, and task centred. The focus of this intervention is to resolve current challenges, make links to sustainable support and enable people to sustain their tenancies.

The role

The duration of the role is a four-year fixed-term contract to cover the length of the apprenticeship programme.

The Social Worker Apprentice will work within the Creative Solutions Team providing a first-class service to our customers.

The main duties of the role include:

  • Focus on providing or facilitating excellent customer services to vulnerable customers holistically. Working to engage, empower and equip tenants to manage their tenancies successfully.
  • Aim to ensure that individuals and families in our homes receive proactive support early if they find themselves in difficulties.
  • Provide a high-quality, responsive, resolution-focused service supporting customers to sustain their tenancies, live independently, build on their strengths, and thrive.

You will undertake a level 6 Social Worker (Integrated Degree) apprenticeship to support your development and chosen career path. Whilst undertaking your learning programme, your manager will help guide your development and day-to-day work, a mentor will provide extra support throughout your role, and you'll be working alongside experienced colleagues to learn hands-on, work-based skills.

The candidate:

We look for the following in all our apprentices:

  • Enthusiasm for the role and THT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively.
  • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage/prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Good problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness and commitment to learn and grow to degree level.
  • Desirable to have a minimum of 112 UCAS points at A-Level (grades BBC), BTEC or an equivalent.
  • GCSE’s in English and Maths, Grade C / Grade 4 or above.

In addition, the following skills/experience are desirable for the role:

  • Two years' experience in a social / health care role.
  • Knowledge of other agencies' support and referral criteria.
  • Experience in working within a customer-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of assessment interviews.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office packages
  • Leads with integrity, inclusivity, and respect for diversity in a professional manner.
  • Ability to critically reflect and analysis to inform and provide rationale for professional decision making.
  • Identify and behave as a professional social worker, committed to professional development applying ethical principles and values to practices.
