Permanent, Full Time/Part Time

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified counsellor to join South Yorkshire Housing Association’s Social Prescribing Team and provide quality holistic counselling support to patients, in partnership with the Integrated Care System.

Counsellor and Social Prescribing Linkworkers will form part of our Linkworker Teams, and will work with patients referred to the service who have mental health conditions or who are suffering from low mental wellbeing.

More about the role:

Counsellor and Social Prescribing Linkworkers will provide time-limited 1:1 and/or group counselling to patients on behalf of Primary Care Networks, NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, and health commissioners.

You will link patients to local community assets and services, helping them to build resilience, which in turn, will reduce demand on the health system.

You will also provide mentoring, training and support to others within the social prescribing team using your specialist knowledge, as evidenced by a degree-level qualification in counselling or equivalent.

You’ll hold a degree-level qualification in counselling or equivalent and should be able to evidence recent practice and professional development, and be registered with an appropriate professional association or representative body (e.g. BACP; BPS).

Locations of work may vary, and may include GP practices, NHS Trust sites, community venues and, where appropriate, patients’ homes.

Who you are:

We are looking for qualified counsellors who enjoy working in the community and are passionate about providing counselling interventions that will enable patients to improve their mental wellbeing and resilience.

You will:

  • Possess the skills and experience to provide high-quality and effective 1:1 and/or group counselling under clinical supervision.
  • Be a fantastic communicator, able to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people, including patients and fellow professionals from clinical backgrounds.
  • Be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and under your own initiative
  • Possess good data, IT and literacy skills
  • Have the ability to work to an outcome-based model whilst evidencing improving people’s health and wellbeing
  • Have excellent organisational skills to manage your caseload
  • Demonstrate commitment to SYHA values and behaviours
  • Be committed to equality and diversity
  • Be able to motivate and engage patients in a strengths-based way, taking account of what matters and building on the assets and capabilities that they already possess
