Chartered Building Surveyor (8253)

Reporting to the Head of Asset Maintenance, the Chartered Building Surveyor will be responsible for providing professional nationwide surveying and property specific legislative advice, providing specifications and effective solutions for complex repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake building surveys and prepare schedules for a range of purposes including condition, disrepair, defects, dilapidations, and enforcement notices.
  • Develop robust business cases, desktop studies and cost appraisals to help support and inform asset investment decision making and/or recommend interim measures to align to existing programmes.
  • Carry out assessments and intrusive surveys to identify the cause of complex building defects and prepare remedial works specifications across a range of building types.
  • Provide advice to colleagues on higher value and complex works arising from routine repairs, ensuring value for money and effective solutions are being achieved.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in preparation of standardised specification for component replacements and repairs.
  • Assess Party Wall notices served upon Guinness in relation to intended works by neighbouring owner occupiers to protect Guinness’s best interests

Essential experience:

  • Excellent technical knowledge of building construction, repair techniques, related legislation, building regulations and best practice.
  • Ability to produce detailed surveys, specifications, and cost estimates for large and complex works.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with a successful track record of delivering complex services in similar circumstances.
  • Acted as an expert witness at enquiries, tribunals, hearings and/or similar proceedings
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement.
  • Proven experience of providing excellent customer services.
  • Proven ability to provide accurate and clear, communications in writing, face to face or by telephone, and reports for distribution at a senior level.
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, housing and property management systems and an understanding of new and emerging technologies related to housing.
  • Extensive experience of service delivery, financial monitoring, and control.
  • Demonstrates the Guinness Behaviours.

Desirable experience:

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the activities of a social landlord.
