Hackney Council is passionate about its housing stock, and committed to continue to maintain and enhance its existing homes and estates. The guiding principles for investment are defined in our Housing Asset Management Strategy 2019 - 2027; which sets current ambitions for the quality of our varied housing stock, comprising over 30,000 dwellings; these range from Victorian street properties and pre-war mansion blocks through tower blocks on large estates. This is an exciting time to join the recently established Climate, Homes and Economy Directorate in the Council and contribute to the strategy’s aim of homes in which people want to live and are proud of and deliver against the Council’s declaration to be Net Zero by 2040.

Our Housing service is changing to achieve the ambitions set in this strategy, and we are looking for a Design & Technical Standards Officer, to join an established team of specialist officers, including those from an Energy and Sustainability background. The ideal candidate will have a passion for retrofit and understanding of the PAS 2035 process and be able to embrace new ways of working (including hybrid) to improve the long-term energy efficiency and sustainability of the Council’s existing housing stock.

As a Design & Technical Standards Officer you will play a key role in delivering our asset strategy through implementing and updating our design and technical standards for the Council’s capital investment programme. You will be responsible for promoting ‘fabric first’ measures to increase the energy efficiency and sustainability of our council homes among our residents. You will play a role in improving the design, energy efficiency and sustainability of our homes, blocks, and estates, and ensuring they are easy to maintain, accessible and safe.

The successful candidate will have experience in developing technical energy efficiency and sustainability specifications. Importantly, the successful candidate will be passionate about social housing, will have sound knowledge of housing energy efficiency and sustainability requirements, building regulations, recent legislative change and current best practice, and will work effectively within multi-disciplinary environments. We plan to deliver our first operational net zero future-fit project in line with our Mayoral manifesto commitments.
