We are looking for a person to join the Greater London Authority’s Housing Policy Team and help tackle London’s housing crisis by delivering the Mayor’s priorities.

London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

This role will tackle a variety of housing issues. You’ll become an expert in your policy area and the solutions needed for London’s housing crisis to support senior colleagues across the Housing and Land directorate and the Mayor’s Office. You will be responsible for proactively managing both policy development and implementation, negotiating the trade-offs and complexities inherent in housing policy. You will draw on an ability to build and manage effective working relationships, as the role requires engagement with senior politicians, London boroughs, housing associations, central government departments, and community and voluntary sector groups. You will work in coordination with other GLA policy and delivery teams covering planning, regeneration, infrastructure, social policy and economic development.

We particularly welcome candidates who have a background in housing policy and hope that you’ll want to use these skills to help the Mayor tackle one of London’s greatest challenges. We also welcome applications from people with the aptitude to learn and who can bring diverse skills and experience to tackle London’s housing crisis. The roles and the team support professional development, and the previous post-holder has progressed to a promotion within the GLA.

Our Competency Framework

The GLA uses competency-based selection, which means we want to hear how your skills and experience compare to a set of defined criteria. These are set out in the ‘Person specification’ and 'Behavioural competencies' section of the job descriptions. In your application you should use examples from your experience (whether in work, education or elsewhere) to demonstrate your abilities under each criterion. Each example should explain the situation you faced, what you did and what the result was.

Applicants who are unsure if they meet the requirements of the role or who would like more information on competency-based recruitment are encouraged to get in touch to discuss their suitability.

You can view the GLA’s full Competency Framework here https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/competency_framework_guidelines_0.pdf.

This role will be based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

If you have a question about the role, please contact jonathan.schifferes@london.gov.uk or a question about the application process, please email glarecruitment@engageats.co.uk quoting reference GLA4110.
