Credit Control Officer – Income / Debt Recovery (Housing)

Castle Vale, Birmingham (Agile)

£23,708 - £26,940 per annum

Position Type: Full Time

Contract Type: Permanent

Our Income Team are responsible for the collection of our rent roll, which is in excess of £12.5m per annum. We’ve been working hard to improve our performance in this area and we have recently carried out a review of the team’s structure. As part of this review we have created the new post of Credit Control Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to work with us, leading on the collection and day to day management of:

· Leaseholder service charges

· Garage rents

· Rechargeable repairs costs

· Former tenancy debt

· Other miscellaneous debts

· Credits

You will be an important member of the wider Income Team, supporting the whole team, participating in office duty cover and responding to customer enquiries. You will therefore need to be confident and have the ability to negotiate the repayment of debts with current and former customers. Previous collection experience is preferred.

Although you will not be responsible for current tenancy debts, you will support the wider team and on occasions support them with this work – for example by issuing system-recommended letters or supporting some administrative duties such as assisting with the issue of statements or elements of the annual rent review. You will need to be comfortable with income recovery practices and procedures.

You will be methodical, able to prioritise your own workload and manage a varied caseload, working with minimal supervision. You’ll be expected to report on your performance and produce basic statistical information. Good Excel skills will be needed and an ability to produce written information such as bespoke customer letters and basic performance commentary.

This position is predominantly office based, and it is not expected that you will undertake home visits. You will be able to work within our agile working policy arrangements, although you must be able to attend the office, sometimes at short notice, to provide office cover, deal with enquiries and participate in wider team activities.

Your application should detail how your experience is relevant to this role and demonstrate an understanding of debt recovery work.
