Managing Buyer

About the role 

Are you an experienced Managing Buyer who is confident implementing robust procurement methods for all material requirements across all projects whilst managing your team diligently?  

 

Duties  

  • Ensure that all procurement processes are strictly complied with 
  • Work enthusiastically and energetically whilst managing your team 
  • Ensure compliance within financial guidelines at all times 
  • Build strong relationships with and chair meetings with external consultants and subcontractors 
  • Capable of understanding and reporting against project budgets 
  • Implement cost control documents followed by accurate reporting 
  • Understand project construction programming and form initial buying schedules to suit programme requirements. 
  • Regularly analyse financial budgets and explore alternatives 
  • Makes good quality decisions and understand the importance of good commercial management and maximising opportunities 
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of construction methods and technology 
  • Confidently negotiate most competitive rates are secured  

 

 

Skills Required  

  • Understanding of construction methods and technology 
  • Measurement and valuation experience 
  • Experience with administration of contract methods 
  • Subcontract/materials orders and buying experience 
  • Commercial skills, maximising recovery, cost control and cash management. 
  • Good interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Ability to use/understand financial reports and final accounts. 
  • Effective planning and organisational skills 
  • Ability to use IT systems effectively 
  • Car Driver with full license and access to a car. 
  • HNC/HND/BSc Hons (or working towards a BSc Hons in Quantity Surveying or similar. (preferred but not essential)
