Chief Executive

As part of our succession planning, we are looking for a Chief Executive who is committed to the social housing sector and the provision of safe, well-maintained, quality homes for those who need them most.

As a V1 G1 organization, Westward owns and manages more than 7,500 homes across Devon and Cornwall and delivers a range of contracted support services to around 1,000 people, as well as developing new homes to assist with the continuing housing crisis.

After more than a decade of transformative leadership, the current chief executive is stepping aside, creating an exciting opportunity for a new leader. We are looking for an inspirational leader who can bring energy, ambition and a passion for housing, together with business acumen to drive improvement and boost performance.

You will be instrumental in delivering the 2030 vision, working alongside key partners and stakeholders to ensure Westward’s vision translates into actions and achievements. This will be a collaborative journey with board members and colleagues.

We seek someone with a proven track record of success in a leadership role within the non-profit or social impact sector, with an understanding of the complexities of our customer base. We want a leader who shares our values, has vision and who wants to work alongside our customers, colleagues, and stakeholders to continue to build on all that we’ve achieved. We are looking for a can-do, inclusive individual; someone who will be open to embracing new ideas and is comfortable in taking risks.

You will also need to have

  • A strong insight into regulatory requirements and knowledge of an effective framework for assurance
  • A track record of embedding excellence in governance
  • Strong financial acumen
  • An awareness of national and political trends
  • A strong customer focus on engagement and influence

We require a first-class leader with the right approach, experience and tenacity to help us build on the great work that’s already happening. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference, supported by an amazing team who have real pride in Westward and what we can achieve.

Westward is committed to treating all people with fairness and respect. We respect and value differences and recognize that diversity enriches our communities. We aim to actively help remove barriers and open doors for our customers and staff and foster good relations within the communities we serve. We welcome applications from diverse and talented individuals of all backgrounds to build on and promote the reputation of this well-established and respected housing association.

We encourage you to take a look at our Recruitment Pack. If those important areas like our values and vision resonate with you, and you see yourself as having the approach and depth of experience that we are seeking, then please follow the instructions within the pack on how to apply and who to contact for an informal discussion.
