Job Details

Environmental Health Manager

Starting salary up to £62,000 per annum

Location: Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn

The challenge
Use your environmental health expertise to address the social causes of health inequalities. As a Service Manager, leading our Community Safety and Neighbourhood Nuisance and Housing Standards Teams, you will have a direct impact on the conditions in which local people are born, grow, live, work and age.

Covering an area of 550 square miles, King’s Lynn and West Norfolk is the largest district in Norfolk and the fifth largest in the country. We’re now embarking on a period of change that will ensure our residents are at the heart of the services we provide. We are passionate about improving their life chances and opportunities to thrive.

As a result, from October 2024, we will be working with the Institute of Health Equity, Norfolk County Council Public Health, and the Integrated Care Board to become a Marmot Place. This means developing and delivering interventions and policies to improve health equity; embedding health equity approaches in local systems and taking a long-term, whole-system approach to improving health equity. You can be part of it.

To help us to achieve our aims we want you to deliver more than just statutory services. For example, you will be overseeing our work with Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on Damp & Mould, as well as projects to identify properties and residents eligible for energy efficiency and carbon neutral retrofits. You will support the development and delivery our Help Hub (an innovative multi-agency forum that works to assist residents at risk of falling into crises) and Sanctuary Scheme supporting residents at risk of domestic abuse.

The person
We are looking for a committed individual with a professional qualification in Environmental Health or a related field. You will also be a Member of the CIEH, CIH or FPH. Experience of leading a number of functions and staff involved in public service is important. You will have an understanding of the issues facing local government, particularly for Environmental Health and Housing, with sound knowledge of new and emerging legislation across the services managed.

The rewards
In return, we can offer you a competitive salary, flexible working options so that you can balance your career with your home commitments, and we will also provide you with generous annual leave and an excellent local government pension scheme. West Norfolk has rich heritage, open spaces, beautiful coastlines, and woodland – and for those wishing to relocate to our beautiful borough we also offer a relocation package of up to £8k.

Find out more
You will be expected to deliver services that contribute positively to the Corporate Strategy and Annual Plan. You will also be integral to the delivery of the Corporate Peer Challenge Action plan. You can find out more about our beautiful area at the Visit West Norfolk website.

For an information discussion about the role, please contact Mark Whitmore, Assistant Director, Health, Wellbeing & Public Protection on 01553 616654.
