Advert Chair and Board Member

Chair (Designate) circa £9,000 per annum (plus expenses)

Board Member circa £3,000 per annum (plus expenses)

Our Chair is due to stand down in 2025, and we will also have a vacancy for a Board Member to join us over the next 12 months. We are therefore seeking a new Chair (Designate) to work alongside the current Chair until his departure, as well as a new Board Member to support us in delivering our objectives.

First Garden Cities Homes Limited was formed on 1 st March 2020 following the amalgamation of Howard Cottage Housing Association (HCHA) and Welwyn Garden City Housing Association (WGCHA). The two legacy organisations share a combined 170-year history of providing homes and services to local people. We are seeking someone who can understand our history and recognise our important role in the communities we serve. We have some core local partnerships that need nurturing and relationships with key external partners and stakeholders that need developing as we steadily grow.

In a new Chair, we are seeking someone who can value our past whilst understanding the current expectations placed upon the sector. Our new Chair will support FGCH by working proactively to ensure that we are effective in our strategy and keep ahead of the curve.

Given the nature of the role, we are keen to attract candidates who have a proven track record in a Non-Executive Director (NED) role and can drive the delivery of our strategic objectives whilst working collaboratively to ensure our business runs effectively and that our residents receive good quality services.

In our new Board Member, we are particularly interested in attracting people who could fulfil one or more of these skillsets:

  • A deep understanding or “lived experience” of social housing
  •  Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, strong connections or skills relating to disability and other underrepresented demographics
  • A local connection to the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire area
  •  Experience of treasury management and business planning

We are also keen to ensure that our Board is diverse in its membership. We are committed to equality and diversity and are an inclusive employer. We welcome applications from people of all ages, living with disability, of any ethnicity, gender, religion, sexuality, transgender status, and cultural backgrounds.

The commitment is for 12 to 15 meetings per year, depending on Committee membership (Board meetings take place in person) plus 2 days per year for Board events. If you think you could be our next Chair, or could add value as a Board Member, then please click on the link below and visit our website to download an application pack.
