Assistant Director: Housing Improvement and Governance

Assistant Director: Housing Improvement and Governance
£90,510 – £105,618

Hammersmith & Fulham is a powerhouse of innovation, progress and an absolute focus on co-production with residents. Our vision is to build a stronger, safer, and kinder borough for everyone, and our track record is one of high performance, high satisfaction and low council tax. This remarkable blend of professionalism and compassion means that we’re well-placed to support our community through past, present and future challenges.

With 11,500 tenants and 5,500 leaseholders, our housing stock represents around a third of total households in the borough. Moreover, we’re busy developing 1,800 new homes, schools, community halls and play areas through schemes which are co-produced, sustainable and self-financing. Our team of over 500 dedicated housing professionals work tirelessly to deliver our vision of providing safe, decent homes within a thriving community where people want to live. We’re on a rapid improvement journey, with recent notable progress in repairs, contact centre, and complaint management. Our compliance team is performing particularly strongly, with our top 6 areas reporting annual compliance of between 98% and 100%. But we know there’s still much to do, so this is your chance to really make your mark as we build an ambitious and resident-centred service.

Our comprehensive improvement programme is designed to achieve lasting change and transformation across all aspects of the Housing Service. You’ll be accountable for the successful delivery of key projects within this ongoing programme (such as HRA budget management, a future operating model, repairs and maintenance, and our review of service charges), as well as task-and-finish work on emerging issues as required. You’ll oversee our innovative Housing HUB – a diagnosis service which also leads internal contract management of our contact centre, as well as the dispute and resolution team. We’ll look to you for insight, analysis and new thinking that’s rooted in ‘what works’, covering structural, operational and governance aspects alike.

You must bring extensive experience of leading and accelerating improvement and change, as well as the ability to influence colleagues both as a direct line manager and as an internal contract lead. Candidates will be expert at thinking and planning at a system level, and must be able to demonstrate a track record of resident-focused transformation that lasts. With a highly-developed project-management toolkit, you will relish the chance to play a pivotal part in our ambitious vision for long-term success.
