Head of Repairs & Maintenance
Stevenage Borough Council

£64,500 (pay award pending) + £9,000 market supplement

Are you ready to take the next step in your career and lead a critical service in a dynamic, forward-thinking local authority? At Stevenage Borough Council, we’re looking for an ambitious and innovative leader to join us as Head of Repairs & Maintenance. This is a key leadership role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our residents and to play a key part in shaping the future of our housing and property services.

About the Council

Stevenage is a progressive and financially stable council, known for pushing boundaries in service delivery. With housing as a top corporate priority and with significant regeneration projects underway, we’re committed to transforming the lives of our tenants through high-quality housing and property services. As part of our ‘Making Stevenage Even Better’ programme, we’re driving innovation, sustainability, and regeneration across the borough. Our leadership team is dedicated to improvement and innovation, and we’re looking for someone who shares our passion for delivering exceptional services.

About the Role

As Head of Repairs & Maintenance, you’ll be at the forefront of our transformation programme, leading the insourcing of our voids services and driving cultural change and higher standards across a broad and varied portfolio of services. This role offers a platform to lead high-impact services, ensuring our repairs and maintenance teams operate efficiently to deliver excellent services that meet the needs of our customers. By implementing practical digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency, and with a strong focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction, you’ll lead services that are crucial to the well-being of our residents.

If you’re someone who thrives on challenge, has a passion for service improvement, and enjoys leading teams through periods of change, this is the perfect opportunity.

About You

We’re looking for a visionary leader with a proven track record of managing large-scale repairs, maintenance, and voids services, and an ability to oversee and enhance our inhouse direct labour organisation (DLO). You’ll need to be a strong change manager, able to lead from the front, inspire large and varied teams, and build a collaborative culture. We need a strong leader with sound communication skills, who ideally has experience of navigating the political dynamics within a local authority, although this is not essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in an ambitious council that is committed to continuous improvement. If you’re ready to make a difference and to enhance your career, we want to hear from you.
