Job Description (the successful person will be responsible for):

The 2020 Social Housing White Paper set out a vision for improving the quality of homes and services to tenants via landlords.  The RSH will lead this improvement across the sector through an expanded, proactive consumer regulation remit.

The Consumer Regulation Adviser (Local Authorities) will be responsible for supporting the establishment and implementation of the Regulator’s proactive consumer regulation regime, following legislation, with specific regard to Local Authorities.  The postholder will provide experience of and insight to delivery of housing services in a local authority setting and to support liaison with LAs to inform development of the revised consumer regulation regime and promote awareness and understanding among LA landlords of their obligations to meet the current and, in due course, updated consumer standards.    

You will have a good knowledge of local authority housing functions and experience of managing and delivering effective local authority housing services, as well as a thorough understanding of local authority structures and the roles and responsibilities and interface between elected representatives and council officers. Finally, you will have experience of effective engagement with tenants and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities (In order to complete the responsibilities of this role, the successful candidate will have):

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that development of the revised consumer regulation framework is informed by insights, knowledge and on-going liaison with local authorities to support meaningful, long-term improvements in the quality of services to, and engagement with, local authority tenants.

They will manage proactive liaison and engagement with local authorities as social housing landlords (including where management is undertaken by an ALMO or TMO), including at senior officer and councillor level, to promote awareness and understanding of LA obligations in relation to regulation of current and future consumer standards.
