Strategy

Strategy Advisor

There’s no such thing as a typical week as a Strategy Advisor at RSH. The role involves such a wide range of interesting tasks that cut across different aspects of our work. It will definitely keep you stimulated and challenged, and you will get to feel your work is valued. One day you might be preparing a staff briefing on a key piece of housing news, which involves summarising the key points and highlighting the potential impact on the sector or the regulator or be working as part of a project team to improve an element of the regulatory framework. Another day you might be responding to a new or future government policy announcement or writing an internal report about an emerging risk within the sector.

You’ll work on a wide range of projects and programmes throughout the regulator, often providing project support to significant strategic projects. With exposure to our executive and senior managers in the organisation, as well as the expectations of stakeholders, including our sponsor department (MHCLG) and wider government, you will gain insight into the thinking of senior staff and will be able to undertake work to help meet the strategic objectives of the projects whilst considering the wider concerns of stakeholders.

In addition, the policy and communications team coordinate the regulator’s responses to relevant parliamentary questions, which come in via MHCLG, so you will liaise with colleagues to help formulate our response and ensure it’s given in a timely manner. The team works closely with MHCLG on a number of policy areas linked to social housing regulation such as rents, and areas covered by our consumer standards, so you may be asked to contribute to our thinking in these areas. Your work for the typical week may finish by contributing to a strategy update to our board or responding to a query about our regulatory standards.

All the while you will be keeping a watchful eye on news from the sector and from government, to help ensure the regulator is constantly alive to any potential new developments in the sector and meeting other one-off requests for work.

Through your work you’ll get to meet colleagues from across the business and learn more about what they do. You will be part of a friendly and focussed team, whose members support each other and share ideas at regular team meetings and away days. The wealth of experience and knowledge within the team and the range of projects worked on will provide great opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills.
